[ARCHIVED] Upcoming Incremental Development Alliance Virtual Seminar: April 21

Small Scale Development Event Two on April 21st at 9am

On April 21st, the City of Eugene will be hosting a second virtual education opportunity to promote housing affordability, availability and diversity of type in our community. The trainings are part of a City Council directive to help build middle housing capacity by educating members of the local building industry, community members, businesses and financial partners in the fundamentals of small-scale development.

Small-scale development is a local movement that enables community developers to cultivate neighborhood growth and livability though small-scale housing projects.

In our community, every new unit is crucial to helping meet housing need. These trainings on incremental development are one way the City is assisting in achieving the goals of unit creation for both overall housing supply and income qualified housing supply as defined in the City’s Housing Implementation Pipeline (HIP).

The City has partnered with Incremental Development Alliance (IncDev) to provide the expertise within this training. IncDev is a national non-profit organization that helps locals strengthen their communities and neighborhoods with small-scale building projects. Incremental development is a tested approach to cost-effectively preserve existing buildings, strengthen neighborhood blocks, and improve the financial fundamentals of community and neighborhood contexts over time.

This Seminar on small scale real estate development focuses on project formation. IncDev takes a big picture view of neighborhood-based development to help attendees analyze what makes a good project, how a building makes money, and how small developers interact with the broader ecosystem of professionals in the built environment. The seminar also uses social media platforms to connect participants to each other to build community. The goal is to help locals create projects that are profitable, make them proud, and improve their neighborhoods. This Seminar builds off of the free Small Scale Development Lecture held virtually on February 24. A recording of that event is available here.
