[ARCHIVED] Sheldon Pool & Fitness Center to open in September

After a year of construction, Sheldon Pool & Fitness Center will reopen in September.

The new facility will include a new indoor therapy pool, a spa and an expanded natatorium, along with improvements to the locker rooms, interior finishes and pool equipment. Work continues on three elements of the facility that need to be completed before the pool can open at full capacity.

“We’re disappointed the project went through a number of delays that prevented the pool from opening sooner, but we’re focused on ensuring each element of the design is safe and functioning properly,” Recreation Services Director Craig Smith said.

Renovating the city’s oldest pool was made possible through the support of the $39 million bond and $3.15 million levy passed in May 2018, which helped Eugene Rec revitalize Echo Hollow Pool & Fitness Center and Campbell Community Center. Sheldon Pool closed previously in 2010 for seismic upgrades and again in 2012 to repair serious leaks, but a full overhaul of the building ensures the facility can accommodate the growing needs of the community as a key part of the City-wide aquatics program.
