At 11:40 p.m. on January 2, a Eugene Police lieutenant spotted a Kia Optima going northbound on Hwy. 99 and followed it, as it had stolen license plates. Corvallis Police confirmed the license plates were stolen and were likely placed on the same type of vehicle, also stolen from their area. When it was driven into Junction City and more officers had arrived in the area, they performed a traffic stop near 8th and Holly. Based on the driver’s behavior, officers pinned the vehicle and conducted a felony stop.
The driver, Travis Tobias Miller, age 35, was taken into custody and lodged at Lane County Jail for Unauthorized Use Vehicle. Two passengers were detained and later released. Stolen property from local area businesses was seized from the vehicle.
An EPD officer communicated with Corvallis Police on the vehicle’s recovery and follow-up information. He found out the registered owner lived in Corvallis and had no way to respond to pick-up his car, it was the only family vehicle, the family had an infant, and could not afford to incur any additional costs. Another EPD officer drove to Corvallis and brought the owner to Junction City, to help them get their vehicle back.
