Storytime-To-Go: Volunteer to Bring Storytimes to Local Daycares
Help local children start school "ready to read"! The Storytime-To-Go project brings Library storytimes to children in local daycare settings.
Trained volunteers lead these fun and educational sessions to help children develop early literacy skills, which research shows are crucial to their future success in school and in life. Each volunteer presents one 20-minute storytime per week, including reading aloud, plus leading songs and other activities, using training, plans, and materials provided by the Library.
Successful applicants will have experience working with children under the age of 10. Also required: 1-year commitment of about 3 hours each week (includes preparation and travel time); ability to lift 10 pounds; valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and use of a car; passing a City of Eugene criminal background check. The initial training includes: Storytime-To-Go training program (one instruction class, observing two storytimes, practicing a storytime with feedback) and one Library volunteer orientation meeting.
