[ARCHIVED] Officers come to aid of person with life-threatening medical issue

multiple police cars with flashing lights

At 1:49 a.m. on March 25, a person called 911 to report a family member was not waking up and was not breathing. Central Lane 911 aired the information over the radio, which was heard by nearby Eugene Police units. Realizing they were close to the address already and medics were further out, Eugene Police officers responded in emergency mode and arrived at the home around 1:53 a.m. and began CPR, then applied an AED. The man regained a pulse. Medics had quickly arrived, stabilized the patient, and transported him to a local hospital.
Eugene Police received a note from Eugene Springfield Fire thanking the five EPD officers who responded to the scene to help for doing an ‘awesome job.” The note recognized officers’ performance of CPR, application of AED, and that officers even moved the patient to the living room to provide medics adequate working space.
