[ARCHIVED] Police Seek Tips in Last Night's Fatal Ferry Street Bridge Pedestrian/Vehicle Crash

Case No. 13-13595

Last night, July 24, at approximately 10:09, Police were called to the scene of a crash involving a 32-year-old pedestrian, Nicholas Asher Tendick, and 1998 red Ford Ranger pick-up driven by Dallin Jeffrey Stewart, age 19, of Vernal, Utah. Tendick was on foot crossing Ferry Street Bridge when he was struck by the vehicle driven by Stewart, who was driving northbound.

Two trauma surgeons were nearby, heard the impact and came to the scene to render emergency aid. Tendick was transported to a local hospital, where he died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Eugene Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation team responded to investigate. Stewart was cooperative with the investigation.

Ferry Street Bridge was closed to northbound traffic for several hours while MCI investigated the crash.

Investigators are looking into whether alcohol had any role in the crash. There have been no citations or charges at this time.

Detectives are seeking information from any witnesses who were in the area around the time of the crash, or who have relevant information in the case. They are asked to call Officer Michael Klews at 541.682.5138. ###
