[ARCHIVED] Summer in the City Downtown Fashion Show

summer in the city fashion show

Once again, talented new and up-and-coming designers display their skill with fabrics and fibers in this 5th annual Summer in the City—Downtown fashion show on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with vending; the fashion show gets under way at 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Sidewalk to Catwalk” featuring designs that fluidly make the transition from every-day to special-night-out, allowing for flexibility and creativity in any Eugenean’s wardrobe.

The 2013 Summer in the City--Downtown: Sidewalk to Catwalk Fashion Show has a new location. It will take place in the East Park Blocks at 8th Avenue and Oak Street (previously it was held in Kesey Square at Willamette and Broadway.) What is not changing is the fabulous MC. Blairalley Vintage Arcade’s Rio Adamson-Towner was voted Eugene Sexiest Bartender in 2011 and returns this year to delight the crowd and MC the show!

The City the Eugene’s Summer in the City staff is thrilled to once again work with local fashion show producers Mitra Chester and Laura Lee Laroux. The two leaders in Eugene’s fashion world are excited to support local talent and highlighting unique Eugene fashion trends, in this new setting.

“I am always looking forward to seeing the creative and diverse talent Eugene has to offer in terms of fashion design! This year, I also look forward to seeing new faces in the crowd because of Create! Eugene.” says Mitra Chester, Owner of Deluxe & Fashion Show Producer

Laura Lee Laroux, Owner of Redoux Parlour & Fashion Show Producer says:
“I am excited about the fact that we have the most designers we have ever had, and that they all sought out applications to be featured in this show. We’re seeing a lot of cross-over from Eugene Fashion Week, which speaks to the sustainability of the fashion scene here.”—Laura Lee Laroux, Owner of Redoux Parlour & Fashion Show Producer

A wonderful addition is the partnership with Mobility International USA and its Women's Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD). The City of Eugene is proud to host guest models from sidewalks around the world to this year’s catwalk in their traditional artisan-made clothing.

“We are excited to bring international flair to the City of Eugene’s downtown fashion show this year. Our international models also breakdown barriers of what defines beauty by showcasing women with disabilities from around the world who are loud, proud and passionate about who they are and what they represent. Wearing magnificent cultural textiles and fabrics, these women will roll and walk the catwalk like we have never seen before in Eugene!”—Cerise Roth-Vinson, Chief Operating Officer, Mobility International USA

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with vending; the fashion show gets under way at 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sign language interpretation is provided. Summer in the City events are wheelchair accessible.
