[ARCHIVED] EWEB's Riverfront Master Plan

Earlier this summer, the Eugene City Council approved Riverfront Master Plan proposed by the Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) that will guide the future development of 15 acres of prime riverfront property.

The Master Plan is the culmination of years of planning and extensive public process. It envisions a mixed-use riverfront neighborhood that is easily accessible to downtown with restaurants, housing, cycling and walking paths, retails shops, and public open spaces.

The EWEB Master Plan aligns with and realizes many of the pillars of Envision Eugene, Eugene’s 20 year plan for growth, including:

  • Providing ample economic opportunities for all community members;
  • Planning for climate change and energy resiliency;
  • Promoting compact urban development and efficient transportation options; and
  • Protecting, restoring, and enhancing natural resources.
The master plan is the first step in transforming the site from its current “brownfield” (and largely vacant) industrial character into a vibrant part of the Downtown core with commercial and residential uses that bring people to the river.

Following a unanimous recommendation for approval by the Eugene Planning Commission earlier this year, the council held two work sessions and a public hearing prior to approving the EWEB Riverfront Master Plan.
