Police were called at 10:48 p.m. yesterday to the 700 block of Stephens Drive after reports of a stabbing. An investigation showed that three individuals, Travis Gregory Brumwell, age 20; Jeffery Leon Guinn, age 19; and Sharif Mohamed Gharaib, age 20, had been entering vehicles unlawfully, then walked eastbound on Stephens St. towards the bike bath. A 24-year-old male and 32-year-old female couple were walking back home together from an evening walk when the suspects (who they were not acquainted with) walked up to them and two of the suspects, Brumwell and Guinn, began to beat the male and punched the female, knocking her to the ground. Gharaib ran from the scene. The male victim pulled out a knife to defend himself and Brumwell was stabbed multiple times. Subsequently, the three suspects left, running northbound. As Brumwell and Guinn attempted to enter a local resident’s home, they were confronted by the owner, who was armed with a shotgun.
Police quickly found Brumwell and Guinn on McClure Street, two blocks to the north of the attack, and took them into custody. Brumwell’s injuries were non-life threatening and he was transported to a local hospital. The male victim was taken to a different local hospital for minor injuries. The third suspect, Sharif Gharaib, was outstanding, but turned himself in to Eugene Police around 10:30 a.m. today.
According to investigators, the trio were intoxicated and the attack on the victims appears to have been random.
All three suspects are members of the criminal street gang West Side Piru.
