Veterans who were injured in recent military conflicts are invited to participate in sports and recreation activities offered by Adapted Recreation.such as cycling for vets, river rafting, kayaking, sailing, hiking, and adapted skiing.

These activities help veterans who acquired disabilities during their military service adjust to civilian life by connecting with other veterans facing similar challenges .It helps them adjust to their new situation by getting into their communities, challenging their minds and bodies, and learning new skills and passions that help them regain a sense of competency.

In support of this program, Adaptive Recreation Services and the Eugene Parks Foundation jointly created the Veterans Adapted Sports Project to help veterans afford to attend adapted sport clinics and activities. Thanks to contributions to this fund, local veterans, along with two caregivers and a coach from Adaptive Recreation, attended the weeklong National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic where they learned kayaking, surfing, sailing, rowing, cycling, archery and judo. This fund will continue to provide scholarships to veterans with disabilities so that they can attend other sports clinics.

Adaptive Recreation’s partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project will bring injured members closer to a healthier lifestyle through rock-climbing, a sled hockey clinic, snow shoeing and hiking this spring.

These programs can ensure that as the new Veterans Administration clinic progresses and is built, veterans will already be connected to our community through adapted recreation activities furthering their connection to a healthy mind, body and spirit.
