Windfall Reading: Live Online
Tuesday, October 19, 2021
This month featuring writers Annie Sheppard and Michael McGriff.
Join Lane Literary Guild and Eugene Public Library for a livestream of the Windfall Reading Series, a monthly gathering highlighting local and regional writers. This month, writers Annie Sheppard and Michael McGriff will read and take questions online. Watch live or watch the recording later.
Annie Sheppard writes novels and essays. Her work has been published widely, including in Fourth Genre, The Writer, Baltimore Review, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and Pushcart Prize XLV. Her prose, both fiction and nonfiction, is speculative. She explains, "Speculative nonfiction is a subcategory of creative nonfiction defined by its unique relationship to fact. In a speculative essay, the writer respects facts and begins with them, but soon wanders off, following a line of thought -- a speculation -- of her own." Sheppard is a 2021 Oregon Literary Arts Career Fellow, a forthcoming resident of the Jentel Artists Residency in Wyoming, and vice president of Lane Literary Guild.
Michael McGriff was born and raised in Coos Bay and his work centers exclusively on the concerns of rural American life. He is the author of four collections of poetry, most recently “Eternal Sentences" which was selected by Billy Collins for the 2021 Miller Williams Poetry Prize. His other books include “Our Secret Life in the Movies,” a collection of short stories that was named a Best Book of 2014 by NPR and profiled on Weekend Edition Sunday. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Bookforum, The Believer, Poetry, American Poetry Review, and Poetry London.
